First Blood

Korea as global trading power

South Korea is expected have over $1 trillion exports and imports this year becoming ninth country to do that. Korea changed from developing nation to developed nation between 1970 and 1990, overcame Asian market crisis in 1990s, and become OECD member. The President Park Chung-hee's firm leadership and encouragement to big corporations paved way to big conglomerates to take control of business sector. As a result, Korean brands, such as Hyundai and Samsung, are well known around the world. But, many small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) had been swallowed and pushed by the big ones. SMEs have big advantages to conglomerates and the government need fix this to further development of country (or $2 trillion in foreign trade a year)

There are some movies in which the corporation governs the world. Unfortunately, it is true that the fiction sometimes becomes reality. In today's world which is more powerful than other one? State or corporation? Facebook has more up to date information about people's private information, such as interests of each person, friend's connections, personal pictures, and current trends in countries. It would super expensive, or almost impossible, for states to build such database. Google knows what hot issues are taking public attention in every country and can manipulate search results for every person. Big banks are too big to fail and directly connected with state finance. Some big corporations are more wealthy than most of the states. Moreover, most talents choose to work for those big corporations which provide a stable job, a high salary, a good environment and the best technology. Because corporations have talented workforce and technology, they develop quicker and more flexible than states. In addition, state's main income comes from Tax Revenue. If the FTA is made between all countries, the trade tax would be basically eliminated. There would no limit to corporations. They can grow bigger than their mother countries.
